PRESIDENT RUPIAH BANDA HAS SENT A MESSAGE OF CONDOLENCES TO THE JAPANESE GOVERNMENT OVER THE DEATH OF THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE IN AN EARTHQUAKE THAT TOOK PLACE ON 11TH MARCH, 2011.
IN A LETTER TO NAOTO KAN, PRIME MINISTER OF JAPAN, PRESIDENT BANDA EXPRESSED HOPE THAT THOSE INVOLVED IN RESCUE OPERATIONS WOULD HAVE THE STRENGTH AND COURAGE TO CARRY OUT THEIR MISSION.
ACCORDING TO A STATEMENT RELEASED TO RADIO PHOENIX BY SPECIAL ASSISTANT TO THE PRESIDENT FOR PRESS AND PUBLIC RELATIONS DICKSON JERE, THE PRESIDENT TOLD PRIME MINISTER KAN THAT ZAMBIA STOOD BESIDE THE PEOPLE OF JAPAN IN THEIR TIME OF DISTRESS AND SORROW, AND SHARED THE BURDEN OF GRIEF WITH THE BEREAVED FAMILIES.
