PAMALAT ZAMBIA LIMITED MANAGING DIRECTOR PIET THERON HAS NOTED THAT THE COST OF PRODUCTION IN THE COUNTRY IS MAKING MOST OF THE ZAMBIAN PRODUCTS UNCOMPETITIVE LOCALLY AND REGIONALLY.
MEANWHILE MR. THERON SAYS PAMALAT’S BUSINESS FROM JANUARY TO JULY HAS BEEN RECORDED AT LOW RATE DUE TO VARIOUS FACTORS BUT THE COMPANY WILL RECUPERATE THE LITTLE LOSE IT HAS MADE THROUGH MARKET EXPANSION IN MALAWI, ZIMBABWE AND THE DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO.
MR. THERON SAYS GOVERNMENT MUST THEREFORE FIND WAYS OF REDUCING THE COST OF PRODUCTION LIKE IT AS IT HAS DONE WITH REGARD TO REDUCING THE COST OF DOING BUSINESS.
HE SAYS BY SO DOING, IT WILL BE POSSIBLE TO MAKE THE LOCAL PRODUCTS COMPETITIVE .
MR THERON HAS STRESSED THAT, INVESTORS WHO ARE WILLING TO INVEST IN THE COUNTRY ARE BEING DETERRED BY THIS FACT AND THIS IS MAKING THE COUNTRY TO LAG BEHIND IN TERMS OF PRODUCING COMPETITIVE PRODUCTS.
