THE ZAMBIA OPEN UNIVERSITY ADVISES THE GOVERNMENT TO EXERCISE EXTREME CAUTION IN THE WAY IT GIVES OUT LAND TO FOREIGN INVESTORS

A LECTURER IN DEVELOPMENT STUDIES AT THE ZAMBIA OPEN UNIVERSITY HAS ADVISED THE GOVERNMENT TO EXERCISE EXTREME CAUTION IN THE WAY IT GIVES OUT LAND TO FOREIGN INVESTORS.
MS. TASILA MBEWE WHO LECTURES IN CONFLICT, HUMAN RIGHTS, DEMOCRACY AND GOOD GOVERNANCE PREDICTS THAT IN THE FUTURE, MOST CONFLICTS ON THE CONTINENT WILL BE OVER LAND AND NATURAL RESOURCES.
MS. MBEWE HAS TOLD RADIO PHOENIX THAT THE ZAMBIAN GOVERNMENT MUST ALSO ENSURE THAT FOREIGNERS WHO INVEST IN AGRICULTURE ARE MONITORED TO SEE WHAT KIND OF CHEMICALS ARE APPLIED IN THE SOIL.
THE ZAMBIA OPEN UNIVERSITY LECTURER NOTES THAT THE COUNTRY’S FERTILE SOIL MUST NOT BE DEGRADED BY THE CHEMICALS WHICH ARE APPLIED INTO IT.
SHE SAYS THE GOVERNMENT MUST PROTECT THE FUTURE GENERATION FROM TAKING OVER LAND THAT WILL PRODUCE NOTHING SUBSTANTIVE.
MS. MBEWE SAYS THE WEST IS RUSHING TO AFRICA BECAUSE OF ITS NATURAL RESOURCES AND VAST LAND HENCE THE NEED FOR THE GOVERNMENT TO PUT IN PLACE POLICIES THAT WILL PROTECT THE ENVIRONMENT.
