ONE MINER KILLED FOLLOWING AN ACCIDENT AT ZAMBIA'S NCHANGA COPPER MINE LATE MONDAY.

ONE MINER WAS KILLED FOLLOWING AN ACCIDENT AT ZAMBIA'S NCHANGA COPPER MINE LATE MONDAY.
NCHANGA COPPER MINE SPOKESMAN SHAPI SHACHINDA SAID IN A STATEMENT THAT THE ACCIDENT OCCURRED DURING SECONDARY BLASTING AT THE UNDERGROUND MINE, LOCATED IN ZAMBIA'S COPPERBELT PROVINCE.
MR SHACHINDA SAID THAT INVESTIGATIONS HAVE BEEN LAUNCHED TO ASCERTAIN THE CAUSE OF THE REGRETTABLE ACCIDENT AND TO REINFORCE MEASURES FOR PREVENTING SIMILAR INCIDENT IN FUTURE.
HE HOWEVER DID NOT STATE THE IMPACT OF THE ACCIDENT ON OUTPUT.
THIS IS THE SECOND FATAL ACCIDENT AT KCM'S MINES IN TWO WEEKS. KCM IS A UNIT OF LONDON-LISTED VEDANTA RESOURCES PLC AND IS ZAMBIA'S SECOND LARGEST COPPER MINER BY OUTPUT, PRODUCED 217,000 TONS OF COPPER CATHODE IN THE FISCAL YEAR ENDED MARCH 31, 2010
