ZAMBIAN GOVERNMENT IN THE PROCESS OF FORMULATING A CLIMATE CHANGE MESSAGE-VERNACULAR -INTERPRETATION PROGRAMME BUDGET

THE ZAMBIAN GOVERNMENT IS IN THE PROCESS OF FORMULATING A CLIMATE CHANGE MESSAGE VERNACULAR INTERPRETATION PROGRAMME BUDGET WHICH WILL HELP THE COUNTRY TO TRANSMIT THE VARIOUS MESSAGES ADEQUATELY TO RURAL COMMUNITIES.
SPEAKING IN AN INTERVIEW WITH RADIO PHOENIX, TOURISM, ENVIRONMENT AND NATURAL RESOURCES MINISTER CATHERINE NAMUGALA SAYS GOVERNMENT WANTS TO ENSURE THAT ALL THE CLIMATE CHANGE MESSAGES ARE RECEIVED BY PEOPLE IN RURAL AREAS AND OTHER PARTS OF THE COUNTRY THROUGH AN UNDERSTANDABLE CHANNEL.
MS NAMUGALA HAS NOTED THAT GOVERNMENT EFFORTS ARE BEING HAMPERED IN AREAS WHERE PEOPLE DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHAT THEIR ACTIVITIES SUCH AS TREE CUTTING FOR CHARCOAL BURNING ARE DOING TO THEIR ENVIRONMENT.
SHE SAYS IT IS IN THIS VIEW THAT GOVERNMENT AND ITS COOPERATING PARTNERS LAUNCHED THE PROGRAMME ON INTERPRETING THE MESSAGES INTO VERNACULAR SO THAT THE MESSAGES ARE EFFECTIVELY TRANSMITTED TO THE PEOPLE.
MS NAMUGALA POINTED OUT THAT PEOPLE NEED TO WORK WITH THE GOVERNMENT IN SENSITIZING COMMUNITIES OVER THE DANGERS OF CLIMATE CHANGE IF ZAMBIA HAS TO MAKE ANY MEANINGFUL CONTRIBUTION IN MITIGATING THE IMPACT OF CLIMATE CHANGE
