Kitwe chingola road to be ugraded into a dual carriage way at a cost of 600billion kwacha


Government Through The Road Development Agency (Rda) Is In The Process Of Up Grading The Kitwe-Chingola Road Into A Dual carriage Way At An Estimated Cost Of About 600 Billion Kwacha.


Rda Acting Director And Chief Executive Officer Bernard Chiwala Said At A Press briefing In Lusaka This Morning That  An initial Amount Of 100 Billion Kwacha Has Been Allocated For The 45.5kilometers  Under The Annual Work Plan To Facilitate The commencement Of Works  Before The End Of the Year.
Mr. Chiwala Says The Design For The Construction Of The Dual Carriageway Which stretches From Kazembe Junction In Kitwe To Kasumpe Junction In Chingola Are already In Place Following A Detailed Feasibility Study That Was Conducted By ranking Engineering.
He Says The Construction Of The Dual Carriageway Between Kitwe And Chingola Has been Necessitated By Increased Traffic Volumes Travelling Between The Two Towns and Beyond.
Mr. Chiwala Has Pointed out That with Increased Mining Activities on the copperbelt As well As the Democratic Republic of Congo, and the Establishment of New Mines in Northwestern Province, Traffic on the Road has increased significantly Over The Years.
He Says Traffic Studies Conducted So Far Have Revealed That An Average Of2550-2600 Vehicles Per Day Travel In Each Direction Between Kitwe And Chingola and 22percent Of The Traffic Is Heavy Traffic.
Mr. Chiwala Has Stated That The Road Whose Construction Period Is Within 2 And Half Years Will  Upon Completion See A Reduction In The occurrence Of Road Traffic Accidents .
Meanwhile To Improvement Transparency In the  Procurement Process Of The Project and Reduce Corruption, Mr. Chiwala Says The Agency Has Written To The anti-Corruption Commission (Acc) Urging The Investigating Agency  To participate In The Evaluation Process.
