Transport, Communication, Works And Supply Minister Yamfwa Mukanga Has Observed That Despite Price Compression In The Communications Industry, Access To Broad Band In Zambia Remains Very Expensive And Out Of  Reach To Many Zambians.

Officially Opening A Two Days Conference On Broadband As A Platform For View In Africa, Mr. Mukanga However Said Government Is Hopeful That With Increased Investment And Competition In The Sector, There Will Be Significant Income And Price Improvements To Expand Access To Broadband Country Wide.
Mr Mukanga Has Stressed That Government Is Also Aware That Price Is Not The Only Barrier Or Impediment To Accelerated Adoption Of Broadband As There Are Many Other Issues That Need To Be Addressed On Both The Supply And Demand Sides.
He Says His Ministry Which Is Responsible For The Development Of Infrastructure Has Placed A High Priority On Broadband And Migration To Digital Broadcasting  To Ensure That The Benefits Of Broadband And Services Are Realised Quickly And Benefit The Majority Of Zambians.
In Making An Appeal To The  Private Sector And Other Stakeholders To Make Suggestions To His Ministry As It Prepares The Budget For Next Year, The  Minister Stated That There Is Also Need To Work Hand-In-Hand To Foster Accelerated Development And Adoption Of Broadband In Zambia.
He Further Noted That Broad Band Is Revolutionising The Way People Solve Problems At The Individual, Community, Business And Societal Level Hence It Is For This Reason That Government Has Put In Place A Pro-Active Legal And Regulatory Framework To Facilitate Private Entry And Competition In The Telecommunications Industry
