ZAMBIA HOST THE 6TH INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF WOMEN JUDGES FROM THE 26TH TO THE 30 APRIL THIS YEAR

ZAMBIA IS SET TO HOST THE 6TH INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF WOMEN JUDGES IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE JUDICIARY AND THE ZAMBIA ASSOCIATION WOMEN JUDGES FROM THE 26TH TO THE 30 APRIL THIS YEAR.
ACCORDING TO A PRESS STATEMENT MADE AVAILABLE TO RADIO PHOENIX BY THE JUDICIARY OF ZAMBIA PUBLIC RELATIONS OFFICER TERRY MUSONDA THE 6TH INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF WOMEN JUDGES WILL BE HELD IN LIVINGSTONE AT THE ZAMBEZI SUN INTERNATIONAL HOTEL UNDER THE THEME: JUDICIAL INTEGRITY; WOMEN AND CHILDREN’S RIGHTS- A JUDICIAL PERSPECTIVE.
MR. MUSONDA SAYS ZAMBIA ASSOCIATION OF WOMEN JUDGES (ZAWJ) LAST YEAR WON THE BID TO HOST THE 6TH AFRICA REGIONAL CONFERENCE WHEN ITS TEN (10) MEMBERS ATTENDED A ONE WEEK INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF WOMEN JUDGES CONFERENCE IN SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA.
HE HAS STATED THAT THE CONFERENCE IS EXPECTED TO BE ATTENDED BY OVER 100 LOCAL AND INTERNATIONAL DELEGATES AND IS BEING HELD WITH FINANCIAL SUPPORT FROM UNDP, UNICEF, GIZ, AND GENDER IN DEVELOPMENT, AMONG OTHER PARTNERS.
MR MUSONDA HAS EXPLAINED THAT THE ZAMBIA ASSOCIATION OF WOMEN JUDGES (ZAWJ) IS A CHAPTER OF THE INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF WOMEN JUDGES (IAWJ)WHICH WAS FORMED IN 2004, AND HAS A MEMBERSHIP OF OVER THIRTY-FIVE (35) ADJUDICATORS DRAWN FROM THE SUPREME COURT, THE HIGH COURT, THE INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS COURT AND THE SUBORDINATE/MAGISTRATES’ COURTS OF ZAMBIA.
HE SAYS ZAWJ IS AN ACTIVE CHAPTER OF THE IAWJ, AND HAS CARRIED OUT A NUMBER OF TRAINING ACTIVITIES UNDER THE JURISPRUDENCE OF EQUALITY PROGRAMME (JEP), IN LINE WITH THE IAWJ’S COMMITMENT TO THE ADVANCEMENT OF HUMAN RIGHTS THROUGH PIONEERING JUDICIAL-EDUCATION-PROGRAMMES.
MR. MUSONDA FURTHER STATED THAT THE ZAWJ IS CURRENTLY RUNNING THE JUSTICE, JURISPRUDENCE ACCESS AND ACCOUNTABILITY IN ZAMBIA (JJAAZ) PROGRAMME WHICH FUNDED BY UNIFEM THROUGH THE UNITED NATIONS TRUST FUND TO END VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN.
HE HAS POINTED OUT THAT ZAWJ REMAINS COMMITTED TO THE ADVANCEMENT OF HUMAN RIGHTS AND THE RULE OF LAW.
