COMMON MARKET FOR EASTERN AND SOUTHERN AFRICA (COMESA) SECRETARY GENERAL SINDISO NGWENYA HAS CALLED ON NORTH AFRICAN COUNTRIES TO RESOLVE THEIR PROBLEMS AMICABLY AND IN A QUICKER MANNER BEFORE NEIGHBORING ECONOMIES FROM REGIONAL BLOCKS LIKE THOSE IN EAST AND CENTRAL AFRICA BECOMES AFFECTED.
SPEAKING YESTERDAY DURING THE OFFICIAL SIGNING CEREMONY OF THE $8.6MILLION PROTOCOL GRANT AGREEMENT FOR THE COMESA AIRSPACE INTEGRATION PROJECT FROM AFRICAN DEVELOPMENT BANK IN LUSAKA, MR. NGWENYA NOTED THAT ECONOMIES OF COUNTRIES LIKE KENYA AND ZAMBIA ARE ALREADY FEELING THE IMPACT OF THE VIOLENCE CURRENTLY GOING IN THE REGION.
MR NGWENYA SAID THAT THE OFF SHOT EFFECTS OF THE PROTESTS IN NORTH AFRICA WILL RESULTING IN LOSE OF JOBS AND BUSINESS OTHER COUNTRIES IN AFRICA AS IT CAN BE SEEN IN KENYA WHICH IS THE BIGGEST EXPORTER SUGAR TO EGYPT ONE OF THE COUNTRIES PASSING THROUGH THE CRISES.
HE POINTED OUT THAT THE CRISES IN NORTH AFRICA MUST BE RESOLVED PEACEFULLY SO THAT THE CONTINENT CAN CONTINUE ENJOYING THE REVIVED ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENTS IT HAS ACHIEVED SO FAR ADDING THAT THIS MUST NOT BE REVERSED.
MR NGWENYA STRESSED THAT THE USE OF FORCE AND AMMUNITION ON PEOPLE AS A SOLUTION TO END THE PROTESTS IN THE NORTH AFRICAN COUNTRIES SUCH AS LIBYA MUST NOT BE CONDONED AND THIS MUST NOT BE TOLERATED.
