Government Joint Investigations Team formally arrest and charge former president rupiah banda's son Andrew

The Government Joint Investigations Team has today formally arrested and charged Mr. Andrew Bwezani Banda, Zambia’s Deputy High Commissioner to India.


Mr. Banda has been charged for Corrupt Practices Contrary to Section 28 (1) paragraph a (i) of the Anti Corruption Act No 38 of 2010 and
Being in Possession of Property Suspected of being Proceeds of Crime Contrary to Section 71 (1) of Forfeiture of Proceeds of Crime Act No. 19 of 2010

Mr. Banda is alleged to have solicited a 2% payment from an Italian Construction Company against payment received from the Road Development Agency (RDA) on both current and future projects. The solicitation is alleged to have been by way of an agreement dated 22nd June 2011 signed by Mr. Banda and Mr Antonello Locci and witnessed by Mr. Banda‘s daughter Ketiwe Banda.

out of the 2% solicited Mr. Banda actually received a sum of One Hundred and Seventy One Million Sixty Five Thousand Seven Hundred Kwacha (K171, 065,700.00) from Mr. Antonello Locci, Managing Director of Fratelli Locci SRI Limited.

Mr. Banda further failed to account for the deposits made to his Stanbic Bank personal account amounting to Three hundred sixty million three hundred thirty thousand kwacha (K360, 330, 000). The money is suspected to be proceeds of crime.

Mr. Banda was arrested at Woodlands Police Station and has been Released on Bond in his own recognisance with two working Sureties
He is being represented by Sakwiba Sikota of Central Chambers.
